If you’re looking for a real paranormal experience, Huntsville’s Martha Chapel Cemetery is the place to go — especially on Friday the 13th. We visited last night, and let me just say… we’re still trying to shake off the chills.

From the moment we stepped through the gates, we felt a heavy energy pressing down on us — like someone (or something) was watching us. The air was thick. We weren’t even 10 minutes in when we felt an icy breeze sweep right behind our necks… and there was no wind.

Things got more intense in the woods. We all saw it — a pair of glowing red eyes blinking at us from deep in the trees. They didn’t move. Just stared. And then vanished. Every hair on our bodies stood up.

But the wildest part? Our spirit box would not shut up. It kept spitting out names. We looked some of them up later and… yeah, they’re buried there. The connection felt real — like the dead knew we were there and wanted to talk.

Creepy? Absolutely.
Safe? Not entirely sure.
Worth it? 100%.

If you go, be respectful — the spirits are definitely listening. ??

My ancestors and immediate deceased relatives are buried at Martha Chapel. I also will be layed to rest there when my day comes. If you think the Cemetery is haunted just imagine the discernment and spiritual connections and bonds that were passed to chosen descendents. It runs through our veins. It's true the Cemetery is haunted and we know that it is. My Family prefers not to be disturbed. To know the history of the buried, that dates back to slavery in the South. Is to understand why Matha Chapel is the way it is. Just know the Spirits are harmless unless you show with malice and if that's the case be careful.

Last night me and 2 of my friends went and it was really creepy, we heard voices on the Ghost tracker app, and they told us to leave. I stayed in the car while they got out and we had their dogs with us and the dogs were going crazy! Lights kept flicking on and off and there was a truck outside the cemetery with no in it and as we were leaving the same truck followed us! We drove as fast as we could to get out of there!

March 2025

Came here with 2 friends. We decided to sit in the car in front of the cemetery just to see if anything happened. We were too scared to get out the car but nothing was going on and then all of a sudden my friend blurted out “I guess these demons are little bitches.” I immediately felt sick to my stomach and I told my friend they shouldn’t have said that because we knew we were not safe… you could feel the energy shift and all of a sudden I see it ! I seen a tall dark shadow on all fours and then suddenly stood up and was circling the car so freaking fast. I was panicking and yelling at my other friend to drive and get us out here. You could see the shadow so clearly and each time it circled us you can see the lights of the car just flashing from whatever that shadow or demon. Thankfully my friend acted fast in getting us out of there because I don’t know what else would’ve happened had we stuck around but It was terrifying! Just don’t challenge them and just be respectful unless you want to have a horrifying experience. Needless to say it will never leave my mind.

4 of us went to demons road me, my brother nana and our great aunt, we saw nothing we felt nothing, didn’t see no little boy on his trike or whatever he’s on, didn’t see no red eyes, but we did hear a big tree fall but that’s it

My boyfriend and I wanted to drive by the cemetery last night. He has always been very sensitive to spirits and paranormal activity, and whenever we’re together, we have the same shared experiences. We didn’t think we wanted to go in, because he just moved into a new apartment and he most definitely would have brought something back. We were driving West on Robinson Creek Rd, and as we reached about a mile away from turning onto Demon’s Rd, my brights turned off. I have a 2024 Subaru Outback, and it had never happened to me before. I tried turning it off “auto”, tried all the headlight switches and the brights would not come back on. Finally after about a minute the brights came back on. 30 seconds later, I saw a pair glowing yellow eyes about the height of a person in the bushes on the side of the road that we were supposed to turn down. We were so distracted by all this that we realized the map was saying we had driven a mile past Demon’s Rd. We turned around in a ranch driveway and headed back. About 0.2 miles before we were supposed to turn, my car stopped accelerating, like I was all of a sudden towing something huge. My car had an extremely powerful engine and when I pressed my food down fairly hard to accelerate through it, nothing happened. It stayed at 24mph. We approached Demon’s Rd and turned to look down it and my brights turned off again. We both got this terrible feeling - mine was a knot in my stomach and his was pressure in the back of his head. I said “Nope!” before he could even say anything and backed the hell off that road. My brights finally turned back on about 30 seconds later and I drove a bit faster out of there as my car started accelerating normally. As we turned off Robinson Creek Rd onto 1374, I looked down at my mileage. There were 300 miles left in my gas tank before we left. There were 200 miles left when I checked it again. We hadn’t driven more than 8 miles to get there. We felt so uneasy about this experience that we stayed up until 4am watching stand up comedy. I became physically ill, but my daughter was also sick before going to her dad’s 3 days ago. My immune system usually fights off whatever she might give me, but I think this experience scared me so badly that it weakened it.

So me and my boyfriend and brother came here one time to visit the Martha chapel cemetery and we couldn’t go all the way inside because there was a truck outside there guarding the place has anyone ever experienced this? Then it was chasing….now it’s may 5th…this time me and my boyfriend and my two kids came and there was the truck and my boyfriend says whenever he was trying to reverse it was pulling his car back……I want to come here again because I been here many times before with my friends in 2020-2021….

I went with my friends after dark one time and I swear something or someone followed me home. It’s been over a year and I can’t tell you how many odd unexplained tragedies I have experienced. Don’t go after dark. I visited the chapel as well as the cemetery and each time I got a sinking feeling in my stomach and got to the point where I was so cold and so scared I had to leave. While I was leaving it felt as if something was pulling my car backwards like I was towing something huge but I drive a small sedan. Something followed me home and has been making my life a living hell. I don’t know what it is or what it wants but I can hear it…. The cold breeze in my house when there’s no AC or fans on… the feeling of something hovering over me. The feeling of uncontrollable emotion. Waking up with scratches…. I thought this was all fun and games visiting a huanted place. But I will forever tread lightly It wasn’t some kind of huge thing. It’s took months of it slowly taking over… it started with a few things in my home moved around. To now completely destroying me emotionally and always being in a low depression

It’s no lie something does follow you home and it does mess with you. It took my key right before my husband had to go for an interview could not find it. He had my clothes ready for me before I got off of work to take a shower so I didn’t have to worry about getting in the closet. Then my cat was gone. She never disappears. She was gone for 23 hours and a spot that she’s never in and then when I wake up this morning, my keys gone completely gone and then soon as his interview was going to start the key was in the closet. Normally where I put it now tell me how the hell did that he get there after I went to sleep that’s by my bed , I have all kinds of photos and videos captured. They even deleted some off my phone that I didn’t even know could happen until someone told me that experienced it out at Martha Chapel cemetery. I’m telling y’all now if y’all go be protected say your prayers say goodbye always say goodbye I just wouldn’t go if I was y’all I went for five times because I felt like it was just calling me like I could not get enough I live and breathe it. It’s sickening really, so I had a back off of it because it’s too much. It got a hold of me but it is a beautiful place to go. If you want to thrill go you will get your thrill that’s for sure.

I've been to Martha chapel cemetery many times both day and night dating back to 2006 when I drove the DHL route in the Huntsville area and FM 1374 area. Been alone and with 1-2 other as well. Nothing has ever occured. Speaking to old timers that lived along Bowden rd , they all mentioned that the stories are all just made up to keep the kids away at night. Back fired I think.
Martha chapel cemetery has graves of the very first white settlers in this part of texas. From 1820s onward. Just a very peaceful place.
